The Ratner School Art Program

We are in the final stages of work in the art program and I can officially say that spring fever has set in. The students are excited with the warm weather, field trips and Maker Space projects. I do my best to keep the projects engaging and enjoyable at this stage of the year and know that my schedule shifts due to rehearsals, field trips and special events. I have had a wonder year teaching your children and am once again in awe at what they can accomplish. I am so fortunate to work in a school that supports the art program 100%  and can honestly say that I love my job. Thank you all for your unwavering support.

Kindergarten Art

I am surprised to say that this week will be our final class for Kindergarten art. I have truly enjoyed the time working with your child and am pleased with the progress they have made with their creative education. I hope I will get to continue their education at The Ratner School in first grade. Please look for a bag with several piece of artwork coming home on Thursday.
We have been working on our special end of the year project in art that you will not get to see until Kindergarten graduation, so no photos this week!

1st and 2nd Grade Art

We began painting the styrofoam and plaster sculptures last week. We had a review of our color theory lessons including warm and cool colors, complementary colors and contrasting colors. Each student used 15 different tempera paint colors to begin the base colors of their work. We should finish all the painting this week and will begin our final project of the year.

3rd and 4th Grade Art

The students are having a great time experimenting, problem solving and constructing their found object sculptures. Each student is growing in confidence, using the hand drills, scroll saw and sanders to construct their art. They are all using the tools carefully and correctly and I am pleased with their attention to their work. I believe we may need one more week in the Maker Space due to the field trip to MOCA this Wednesday.

5th and 6th Grade Art

The students are finishing up the construction project in the Maker Space. They continue to improve their craftsmanship skills and are showing growth with their problem solving. My assistance is not needed as often and there are several students helping one another. I believe the majority of the projects will be finished this week.

7th and 8th Grade Art

The history projects are beginning to take shape. The students have all formulated their plan of action, gathered materials and are working on their final projects. That is all I have to share about their work for now and will post pictures when the projects begin to show more development.
